Congrats to the Remi

Jenny, Sam, and Jackson Remus My big sis Jenny got married on Saturday.  I had been looking forward to this like crazy since they first got engaged last May.  The entire thing was a blast starting with the bachelorette party on Thursday.  Everything went really, really well.  There were a couple of hurdles that we ran into leading up to the wedding but everything ended up working out just fine.  The ceremony went perfectly, the clamdigger at the bar after the ceremony was delicious, the dinner was fantastic, my speech was short and sweet (big points there- I have a history of speech rambling, but this one wasn't like that and I even made fun of Jason a little bit during it so... bonus points!), the dance was a super good time, and the Taco Bell at the end of the night was the icing on the cake.  Everyone looked fantastic, most of all the bride.  It was all perfect and now I'm sad that it's over.  What am I going to look forward to now??

A life-altering week (T-Minus 9 days)
05/02/2008 by Jason

Wow, what can you say about the past seven days? It has been an emotional roller coaster. As my wife said previously, last week I was named the new head boys' basketball coach at Mandan High School. To say that I'm excited is an understatement. However, it has been difficult knowing that my time with the kids down here is limited. I've gotten pretty close with some of them and breaking the news was not easy.

Here is a link to the article on the Bismarck Tribune if you haven't seen it.

Besides that, we also have exciting news: we have just agreed to purchase a lot on the Missouri River. It is 1/2 acre down in a quiet, secluded, and wind-protected development in Mandan. It's not on the river bank, but right across the street from it. We are right by an easement that allows us river access, and there is also a bike/running trail that runs along the river. We have a ton of work to do removing trees on our lot, but we couldn't be happier. So grab your chainsaws and come on down, it will be a great time.

So, on a scale of 1-10 on the ol' life scale right now, I'd probably list it as a 12.

I love the black and white. Two races of flavor living side by side in harmony. It's a wonderful thing, isn't it?"

I was going to wait for my husband to post something about this one, but I alas I can wait no longer. Jason has decided to join us on the dark side! We're crossing the river!!!

Just in case you haven't heard- Jason is officially the new Mandan High head boys basketball coach! He is super excited about the opportunity and I couldn't be happier. It used to be that every time we'd go to games I'd ask if we could sit in the Mandan section, if I could cheer for Mandan, if I could wear my Mandan gear, and the answer to all of those was always no, but not anymore!! So, this means big changes for us (more than just my choice of game attire). More on all of that later…

I'll let Jason say more, but as I said, I couldn't wait any longer.

Thanks to everyone who has called, texted, and emailed with their congratulations. We are uber-pumped about the up-coming season.

T-Minus 25 Days (in case you were wondering)
04/11/2008 by Jason

So many people have asked, "Hey Jason, how many days of school do you have left?" Well the answer is stated above. Although you couldn't tell we're anywhere near summer with the 5+ inches of snow we got overnight.

I'll keep updating the countdown, since everyone is so interested.

Injury Timer Reset
04/10/2008 by Jason

Forgot to mention that the injury timer had to be reset at the state amateur, after a nice run of 2 years and 4 days. On Saturday, I was going for a loose ball and my legs were taken out from me, and thus landing square on my hip/tailbone. It did not feel good.

The last time it was reset? March 25, 2006 - a separated shoulder. Where? The State Am.

State Champs 5X
04/10/2008 by Jason

Thanks to my wonderful and beautiful wife for keeping this blog going. As she mentioned our team won the State Amateur tournament, my 5th with these guys. However, I had NOTHING to do with the championship this year. My contribution to the team was realizing that I should not have been on the floor and deciding to sit most of the tournament out, letting our youngins take over. Damn kids are too young and too fast for me nowadays. A combination of not playing much this year and getting older, fatter and slower is not going over very smoothly. I have considered dropping down a level for next year or maybe not even playing. It's either that or committing to playing and getting in shape, and we all know how that will go over. It was a good weekend though, and the after-party was twice as fun compared to the actual tournament.

Yes I did have a couple of quotes during the tournament, I'm always good for that or getting into it with my teammates. One of my first years with my team, we were playing a Minot team and just getting pumped. I believe we were down 21. We called a timeout and my teammate Rusty and I got into a heated exchange in the huddle. Before you know it, our 21-point deficit was gone and we ended up winning by 25. I absolutely take full credit for that (ok, that's a stretch), and since then I tried to make it an annual tradition to get into it with him to get us going if we are flat. Even though I suck, I still get intense.

Anyway here's the quote of the weekend: We were playing one of our games and our MVP Bill Halter (he of KFYR TV Sports) drove baseline, got caught in the air and threw the ball to me. The whistle blows for some reason and Bill says to our other teammate, Rusty Gillette (The Ageless Wonder), "My bad Rusty, I thought that was you." Being as sensitive as I am, I respond, "(Expletive) you, I can (expletive) hit that."  Needless to say, that was relayed to the rest of the team and repeated many times Sunday night after the tourney.

One more very important thing.....

Yesterday was my little sister Sami's 18th birthday.  Happy birthday Sam!!!! I don't have very many pics of her on this computer so this one will have to do which is from like a year and a half ago.  She and Jackson are both still as cute now... ;)

Jason and I are heading out to Minneapolis today to see Jackson, Jenny, Sam, Joe Mauer, and Dave Joerger. There were supposed to be a whole bunch of people coming with us (remember anything about that Matt & Nicole? Maybe Aaron & Elsie can remind you) and now it's down to just Jason and myself. Oh well, no ice cream sundaes in plastic Twins hats for you guys. It's good that we're going. I definitely could use a break. I FINALLY finished up those wedding pics I had done. They took a LONG time. I have tons of newfound R-E-S-P-E-C-T for the photographers who do that on a regular basis. I just have one more big project to wrap up and then I might have a bit of free time for awhile. That will be fantastic.

As far as what Jason's up to- since he has forgotten to post for like the last 3 months - he started golf. His team also wrapped up another season of amateur basketball with yet another state championship. The game was alright, but the bar afterwards was the real show. I won't name names, but a couple of highlights are that one of his teammates started slowly removing items of clothing and ended up running around the bar with his pants, shoes, and shirt off (don't worry, he still had his b-ball uniform on), a couple of Jason's more memorable quotes were immortalized, one of his other teammates decided to give me a head massage and then do my hair (I really don't like people touching my head, but he had had a drink or two so I let him slide).  I think I might have gotten some wrinkles from laughing at them. The entire night was pretty hilarious.

I'm jealous!

My old golf team has somehow managed to get to go to Quito, Ecuador for their spring trip this year.  Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about a few trips to Amelia Island, FL, but come on, it's Ecuador!  There was even a day of just sightseeing and no golfing! That's crazy! Martha must be getting soft!  Anyway, they're blogging about their trip which is pretty interesting: http://macgolfsb08.blogspot.com/

What happened to the good old days of chasing armadillos and playing in the ocean for fun? Instead they're scaling basilicas and eating empanadas.

For some reason I keep picturing Quito as looking like Juarez, but I have a feeling it is much nicer than that.  I wonder if you have to pay to use the bathrooms there too....
